We managed to escape without buying a membership, and they gifted us a generous amount of resort credits that we used at the Sun Palace spa (basically we paid taxes only for the services). To be honest, we didn't think our breakfast was anything special, and the beach area didn't look as nice as the Sun Palace. It's also couples only and is supposed to be a cut above the rest, especially their spa services. We did attend a presentation at another resort in the system that we had been curious about called Le Blanc. If you've been to an all-inclusive resort, you know that they are constantly trying to sell you upgrades or memberships. (If you show up an hour before your appointment you can do hydro therapy, including sauna, steam room, heated lounges, and plunging into cold and hot pools.) I also had a mani/pedi at the Awe Spa, which was a nice treat, although the color selection was a bit limited. It was okay, but the massages and the hydro therapy were better.

Both of us enjoyed the massages the most (Joanne in particular was top-notch), but we also did a service called In Vino Veritas, which included a full-body exfoliation, facial, and private dinner inside the spa. We also took advantage of the spa on this trip, visiting three times over the course of the week. Note: if you are trying to get a buzz, frozen cocktails/shots won't get you very far. We also enjoyed the bars and the layered frozen shots called Bumblebees, which we discovered too late on our first visit. There are 4 dinner restaurants at the resort, but our favorite eating was at Aurora's breakfast and lunch buffets. We started most of our mornings with coffee, mimosas, breakfast fare, and Juan. Our waiter at Aurora, Juan Guinto, was a prime example. The servers on the beach and in general were very attentive and hospitable. This was our second week-long stay at the Sun Palace in Cancun, and we had a wonderful time! On our first visit, we checked out another resort in the Palace system and realized that the stretch of beach at the Sun Palace is considerably nicer than others.
